Tianjin Chengjian University established Foreign Languages Department in 2004, which was renamed as the School of Foreign Languages in March 2012. At present, School of Foreign Languages (SFL) has two undergraduate English programs of English and Translation and one graduate program of International Chinese Language Education. It consists of five teaching units—the Department of English, the Department of Translation and Interpretation, Office of General English I, Office of General English II as well as the Language Experiment Center. SFL is responsible for the teaching of English major courses, college English courses, extension and selective English courses through the university. Its faculty number is 73, among which 22 are professors or associate professors. SFL invites noted experts and scholars in and out of China to teach and make academic exchange every year.

Besides its efforts in education, SFL is always strengthening its academic advantages and has made great improvement in recent years. More than 200 papers have been published. In the meantime, the teachers has edited and participated in the compilation of more than 30 textbooks, undertaken provincial and university-level teaching reform projects and research projects.

SFL is well equipped with first-class teaching facilities, including advanced language labs, abundant books and audio-visual materials. It has set up 7 education and training bases. In recent years, the graduate employment rate is close to 100%.

At present, in pursuit of the national and regional development strategies, with focus on improvement of education quality, the SFL faculty has taken the teaching reform as a breakthrough point, actively optimized its layout of discipline construction, and strived to cultivate compound and applied language talents in line with the needs of the new era.
